Anil Dash -- A Proposal

*SEE update at the bottom*
The actual title is, "A Proposal for a Kinder Blogosphere" Read the whole thing, since it's actually two subjects in one.

The first part is about how bloggers tend to leap on a negative and hang onto it like a terrier with a bone. Yep, I've seen that happen and not in a good way for anybody involved.

The second part -- now this is right up my alley, as blogs for non-profits is part of my presentation for PR Blog Week. (This event is open to all, and is free of charge.)

Anil Dash suggests a few things off the bat:

A PowerPoint plan of action so that executives or non-tech people can see how to use blogs for positive action
A how-to so that non-profits and other social organizations can leverage blogs for their campaigns
Some background documentation on the types of results bloggers have had (with everything from Trent Lott to the Star Wars Kid as examples)
A place to collect personal testimonials from people who've benefitted from blogger-inspired campaigns or who've changed their work or changed their ways due to input from the blogosphere

While I don't have or use Power Point -- somebody else will have to take the lead there, I've got a handle on the textual how-to already. Blogs definitely have a place in activism of all kinds! This will have its own section at the aforementioned PR Blog Week event, when I post my presentation on July 13.

*UPDATE* I have a blog set up at http://positive-stories.blog-city.com/

Anil's modest proposal to be less obsessive about 'Stuff That Sucks' is a timely one, especially in a community that wants to be considered credibile. There are plenty of positive stories that are waiting to be told, not just by us bloggers, but by those we invite to participate in our discussions.

I've been writing and teaching for two years about using blogs as part of the marketing mix. One of my Global PR Blog Week topics is "Examples of smart blog use in PR and marketing campaigns and sites that cry out for blogs." If you'd like to see a list of my articles on blogging for business, illustrated with many dozens of examples, please type the word "blog" (no quotes) into the archives of my newsletter, What's Next Online http://www.whatsnextonline.com/wno/index.html
