The Irish have a saying, "I am blessed with work." I certainly have been blessed this time around. ;>)
Our Christian bloggers are no slackers when it comes to jumping into the fray and letting the world know who they are! There are 40+ posts from a wide variety of Christian sects and disciplines -- a wonderful statement on how blogs can allow people with many different approaches and ideas to truly co-exist and get along, not to mention learning from each other. We're blazing a trail here, and I'm honored and happy to be part of this!
Thanks to all of you for participating, and thanks also to the Lord, who makes all this possible.
So without further ado, here are the excellent posts I've received so far:
Philosophical Poetry
but I will not remove from him my steadfast love
I ran across Psalm 89 in my reading the other day, and it struck me almost immediately. There are basically three points of progression in this statement of God's, and the last is bound up in the first. The psalmist declares the promises of God, points out a problem with the state of things, and then demonstrates how God will be greater than the problem and remain true to himself. It's a liturgical, rather than a theological, theophany—a justifying of the ways of God to his
people.

How to Read the Bible II - Devotional Reading
This is the second in a series of articles on How to Read the Bible.
One of my former mentors used to say that we Christians we have the tendency to neglect our own personal Bible reading. We have the Bible at our bedside table or on the shelf and we will not exert the energy to stretch out our arms and reach for the Bible to read it ourselves. Yet we would travel miles to ensure that we do not miss listening to a favorite Bible teacher.

99.86% Pure Censorship in the Making
An Alabama congressman recently pre-filed a bill which would prohibit state libraries from stocking various books deemed unsupportive of the state's morality
laws. This is what censorship is, not the complaints of concerned parents over age-appropriateness which is often called censorship. Having said that, is real
censorship a good thing for our society?

Beyond The Rim...
Capital Punishment: Part II
This is a continuation of a biblical study of killing and capital punishment that started in response to to a post at Proverbial Wife and my discussion with LaShawn Barber about Scott Peterson and my opposition as a Christian to his being tried for a capital offense on only circumstantial evidence. Part I was sent in too late for last week's Christian Carnival. Part II reviews God's command to
Noah before going on to Abraham, Lot, and Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham and Isaac, and closes with Moses' killing of the Egyptian overseer. The Old Testament
section will include the Passover, Mosaic Law, God's judgment during the time of
Joshua, including Jericho, issues in Judges, David and Saul and David and Basheba, Jeremiah, Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar, Nehemiah, and issues covered in the prophets, such as Isaiah, and special consideration of Job. This will take a
while, and I expect summary post along the way but I am trying to avoid spending too much time on repetetive arguments and issues. Then there is the New Testament...

Parableman
Christian Conviction, the Law, and Real Virtue
Those who advocate laws on the basis of Christian belief need to be clear on whether these laws will prohibit acts or whether they will encourage acts. Those are very different kinds of laws. The most common objection to legislating morality forbids the former. This post looks at an argument against doing the latter. Laws encouraging morality just seem to be giving people the wrong motivation. Laws forbidding certain actions don't have that problem, even if some raise other problems for them.

The Crusty Curmudgeon
Calvinism and the sincere offer of the Gospel
One of the objections raised against Calvinism is that the offer of the Gospel to all men cannot be sincere if God has made provision for the salvation of some but not others. In light of recent series in the blogosphere on the five points of Calvinism, this post examines whether that objection can be sustained.
Take care,
