Silicon Valley Cowboy
By Billy Jones
Saw a cowboy in a Volvo
herdin' cattle 'cross the plain,
Volvo red, hat was black.
Yeah, I thought it kinda' strange.
He was twirlin' 'round his lasso,
lariat, I think it's called.
The Volvo, it had mud.
The cowboy, he was bald.
His lariat, it snagged a doggie
while the Volvo held it firm.
Then the cowboy pulled his iron
from the tailpipe where it burned,
and he put it to the doggie,
left behind the Volvo brand,
big ol' 'V' there on its rump.
Then he turned it loose again.
The cowboy's spurs, they tore the carpet
on the floor there by the brake,
and the windshield had some holes
from his six gun-- a mistake.
In the backseat was a rifle,
lever action, thirty ought six
and an extra case of ammo
put where he could get it quick.
On the right floor laid his duster
and an extra pair of boots,
can of beans, loaf of bread,
and a little bag of loot:
mostly change with a few dollars,
totaled out nine ninety-eight.
On the dash, a Chevron card
for the gas for his V/8.
In his trunk, he keeps his saddle.
Never needed it before,
and for now he doesn't use it.
Says it leaves him really sore.
Said to me, "Once times was different
'fore the economy, it just bombed.
Was then, I weren't a cowboy;
used to own a big Dot Com."
Look! There goes another cowboy in a Beemer!

It always thrills me to see that someone, anyone... especially highly respected writers like yourself, thinks enough of my poetry to show it to their readers.
