I couldn't agree more - Press releases are a necessity and blogs can support them/and vice versa.

What I was getting at here is that there are those who when confronted with the question of 'how do we tell our customers about the flavor-of-the-day thing that we want to appear to be ahead of the curve on...or whatever...' that weblogs offer some distinct differences from a standard press release.

I submit that a weblog should be an integral part of any online press room. At the end of the day, they (weblogs and press releases) are more complementors than competitors.
